I continue to wade through the treacle that is the social commentary of Victorian London and have started looking at ‘The Bitter Cry of Outcast London: An Inquiry into the Condition of the Abject Poor’ written by Rev Andrew Mearns with William Preston (1883). A penny pamphlet comprising some 20 pages it is known for both content and form, although the former was nothing new. You can read some of it here and find it on archive.org:https://www.attackingthedevil.co.uk/related/outcast.php
