I’m currently working my way through the course books for the Open University Course DA301 ‘Studying family and community history: 19th and 20th centuries’ which dates I believe from 1994 to 2001. Its approach to the study of family history very much mirrors my own – i.e. Moving from family tree to family history, then to community history. And back again.

Check out your favourite secondhand book dealers to acquire the 4 course books and ideally the reader ‘Time, Family and Community’ (Blackwell Publishers 1994), a collection of essays edited by Michael Drake.
